El País. Europe is putting pressure on Kyiv to curb the outflow of young people to other countries

Germany, Poland and the Czech Republic announced to Ukraine that it should prevent the entry of refugees into Europe beyond its borders, the Spanish newspaper El Pais reports.

These three European countries have received the largest number of Ukrainians since the beginning of the conflict. Each country gave different reasons, but all made it clear to Kyiv that the situation was approaching the limit of their capacity to accept refugees from Ukraine.

As the publication notes, the European Commission confirmed in December that the number of requests from Ukrainian refugees increased sharply this fall. Brussels attributes this increase to a regulation adopted in August that simplifies border crossing procedures for men aged 18 to 22.

The newspaper also describes the demographic situation of Ukraine as catastrophic. The problem, among other things, is that most of those who leave the country are women with children and young people, people who are able to adapt to a new life.

Moreover, once martial law is lifted, hundreds of thousands of men may want to leave Ukraine to reunite with their families abroad.
