President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky dismissed the commander-in-chief of the country's armed forces, Alexander Sirsky. This is reported on the president's social network pages.
Mikhail Drapati was appointed the new commander-in-chief.
"Together with Mikhail, Evgeny Khmara and Pavel Palisa, the new formation of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine was decided," Zelensky noted.
Earlier, on July 15, Ukrainian Defense Minister Mikhail Fedorov resigned amid disagreements with Sirsky. That process caused protests. a number of citizens demanded the return of Fedorov and the dismissal of Sirsky.
Mykhail Drapaty is a Ukrainian Major General, former Deputy Commander of the Ground Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
He became famous especially in 2022, in the south of Ukraine, during military operations in the direction of Kherson. Drapati led units that participated in battles against Russian troops.
Before being appointed commander-in-chief, he held the position of commander of the ground forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine. He also headed the "Kharkov" operational-tactical group.
Drapati is considered one of the soldiers of Sirsky's generation, who served in the Ukrainian army for many years. His appointment takes place in the background of the reorganization of the leadership of the armed forces of Ukraine.
