A rally was held near the Armenian embassy in Moscow, the participants of which expressed their protest against the actions of the Armenian leadership. About 300 people took part in the rally, including clergymen, public figures and representatives of the Armenian community of Moscow. The Facebook page of the Armenian Church in Moscow writes about this.
Those gathered condemned the decisions of the Armenian authorities to arrest several clergymen of the Armenian Church and Samvel Karapetyan, calling them unconstitutional.
The protestors chanted: "Freedom to the clergy. Keep your hands away from the Armenian Church."
Addressing the participants of the rally, priest Gevorg Vardanyan emphasized. "The anti-constitutional actions and persecutions of the Armenian Church by the authorities aim to sow division in the Armenian society and the Armenian Church. They want to turn Armenia into Ukraine.
"Today, the authorities openly try to interfere in the internal affairs of the Church. By creating an atmosphere of fear, they seek to bring the Armenian clergy to their knees and completely destroy the Armenian Church. However, they will not succeed. for centuries, the Armenian Church, enduring the most difficult trials, has preserved unity and remained the guarantor of the existence of our people. Today, four of our bishops are detained on false charges, but even from prison they continue to speak about unity. "The Armenian Church cannot kneel down," said Rev. Kerovbe Barseghyan.
The participants of the rally expressed their full support to the popularly elected Catholicos of All Armenians Garegin II, calling on them to gather around the Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin to overcome this test facing the Church and the Armenian people together.
