Two tankers exploded on mines and caught fire while attempting to pass through an unauthorized route in the Strait of Hormuz. This was announced by the naval forces of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, reports Mehr.
According to the IRGC, one of the tankers was located east of the strait, and the other was directly in the strait. Both ships caught fire after the explosion.
The IRGC naval forces' press service statement says that the tankers repeatedly violated established rules and turned off their navigation and positioning systems before attempting the route which Tehran considers unauthorized.
Iranian military personnel warned that ships cooperating with US forces and violating the Iranian rules for passage through the Strait of Hormuz risk exploding on mines.
The IRGC also called on crews not to trust statements by the commander of the US Central Command (CENTCOM).
