The reorganization of the State Department will lead to the closure of 130 departments and the elimination of at least 700 positions.
This was reported by Reuters, citing a document containing preliminary reform programs.
The document submitted to the Foreign Relations Committee of the Senate and the House of Representatives contains provisions on the upcoming elimination of 132 Bureaus, Departments and Programs of the State Department. 732 staff will be reduced, many will move to other departments or will be reorganized.
In particular, as the Washington Post clarifies, the Deputy Security Policy, Democracy and Human Rights Secretary of State will be eliminated.
In addition, the services involved in the investigation into the investigation of war crimes, as well as the "Conflict and Stabilization Action" will stop activities.
The publication notes that the reform of the State Department, judging by the programs set out in the document, will be "not so radical" as expected.
In particular, there is currently no talk of restricting the activities of US diplomatic missions on African continent and replacing the specialized department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with a special representative of Africa.
