Scientists are warning about the approach of the orbit because of the cosmic garbage

According to the new European Space Agency (ESA), the situation with space waste near the country is approaching a critical point. The report was published on the official website of ESA.

According to the document, there are currently about 40,000 protests on our planet, of which only 11,000 are active satellites. The real picture is more worrying. The specialists estimated 54,000 fragments from 10 cm, and small fragments are hundreds of millions.

This is especially dangerous, the so-called "Kessler Syndrome", the cascade effect of the clashes, when each new clashes create hundreds of additional fragments.

According to ESA, this process has already begun. Even if all the starts stop, the number of debris will increase due to mutual clashes. In 2024, 11 cases of uncontrolled destruction of objects were registered, as a result of which 2633 new fragments were added to orbit.

The problem is worried about the fact that even small particles (1-10 mm), flying up to 28,000 km / h, can turn off satellites and threaten the International Space Station. At the same time, modern technologies are not yet able to pursue an effective orbit cleaning. 90% of the effort is focused on prevention, including the controlled reduction in the spacecraft.

Scientists have warned that the time to solve this problem is limited. If the particles of peas may already penetrate into the solar panels of the International Space Station, then a decade will risks several times a few times.
