Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba, in an interview with the Kyodo news agency, clarified that when he talks about the need to discuss the idea of possibly sharing nuclear weapons, he is referring to the “decision-making process” and not the joint ownership or control of nuclear weapons. “I am talking about the process decision-making,” the agency quotes him as saying, without citing any other quotes.
The report also notes that, speaking about joint use, the head of the Japanese government clarified that this does not mean joint ownership or control of nuclear weapons.
The Prime Minister of Japan has repeatedly expressed his position on the need to comprehensively study the issue of the possibility of joint use of nuclear weapons. This, in turn, has drawn sharp criticism from some opposition parties.
