The head of the EU diplomatic service, Kaya Callas, stated that the European Union does not need its own army, as the North Atlantic Treaty Organization includes 27 member states of the organization. In his opinion, NATO and the EU should cooperate closely.
"We should not duplicate what NATO is already doing. We have 27 armies in the EU and they should all contribute to collective defense where we cooperate together.
"Each country has defense planning and a defense budget. So we can't say we need a European army, but we need these 27 EU members to work very well together when it comes to NATO and the EU." , Kallas told Anadolu Agency before his visit to Turkey on January 24.
"We have many issues on the agenda, in addition to regional security, we can discuss cooperation in various fields, such as energy," he noted.
