16 people were injured in a mine explosion in Poland

At least 16 people were injured in a methane fire at the Knurów Szczyglowice mine in the Silesian region of southern Poland, rescuers told reporters.

"14 people were taken to hospital," said Lukasz Pach, head of emergency medical services in Katowice. In total, medical aid was provided to 16 victims.

The victims mostly received burns, as well as hand, leg and bruise injuries.

The statement said that the incident took place in the area of ​​one of the walls more than 850 meters underground.
