Lithuania has announced that NATO's eastern wing should withdraw from the landmine convention

The entire eastern wing of the NATO countries should withdraw from the international convention on anti-personnel mines (Ottawa Convention), the foreign policy advisor of the President of Lithuania, Asta Skysgiritte, announced on the air of the Žinu radijas radio station.

"No hasty decisions should be made," he said.

The advisor reminded that the Ottawa Convention was adopted in different geopolitical conditions. "At that time, Europe was living in peace, and there were corresponding sentiments that it would continue for decades," Skysgirit noted.

As the Minister of Defense of Lithuania Dovil Šakaliene announced last week, the Baltic countries should form a united position regarding anti-personnel mines. He said that the format of consultations between the countries of the region bordering Russia and Belarus will be agreed upon in the near future.
