Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, General Vadim Shamarin, was arrested

The Investigative Committee of Russia has arrested the head of the Main Communications Department of the Russian Armed Forces, deputy chief of the General Staff, lieutenant general Vadim Shamarin. This was reported by "Komersant" newspaper, referring to a source in the law enforcement agencies. The information was confirmed by the source of "Interfax". According to "Kommersant", Shamarin was arrested in the criminal case of alleged fraud. The general was searched, after which he was taken to the General Military Investigative Department of the KP for questioning.

The case is being investigated in the 235th Garrison Military Court. The Investigative Committee did not comment on this. Recently, it became known about several criminal cases that were initiated against the heads of the Russian Defense Ministry. At the end of April, Timur Ivanov, Deputy Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation, was arrested in Moscow, he is accused of taking bribes. In May, Yuri Kuznetsov, head of the personnel department of the Russian Defense Ministry, was arrested, he is also accused of accepting bribes. In addition, the former commander of the 58th Army, Ivan Popov, who criticized the Russian Defense Ministry, was arrested in a fraud case. Deputy Chief of the General Staff, Colonel-General Khalil Arslanov was arrested in the case of fraud and corruption. He is accused of fraud and bribery. 2022 "Kommersant" wrote that Arslanov's case will be investigated in closed mode, but the verdict was not informed.
