The number of violations at polling stations in Moldova increased to 113

The number of violations at polling stations in Moldova increased from 75 to 113, reports the press service of the republic’s police.

Presidential elections are being held in Moldova on Sunday; the head of the republic is being elected for a four-year term. Also on this day, a referendum is held, within which citizens must answer the question: “Do you support changing the Constitution in order for the Republic of Moldova to join the European Union?” For both events to be considered valid, the turnout for each of them must exceed 33.3%. Polling stations will close at 21.00.

The Moldavian police published a table with cases of violations in their Telegram channel, indicating that their number had increased to 113. Based on these data, the police recorded 27 cases of photographing a ballot, 12 cases of campaigning, 11 cases of damage to ballots, eight cases of bribery, seven - unauthorized election demonstration and one or two other offenses. Another 29 cases are related to hooligan behavior, conflicts, and being drunk. Law enforcement officers note that data on all violations is transferred to the country’s Central Election Commission.

There are 11 candidates vying for the presidency. The main struggle is between President Maia Sandu, who is running for a second term, former Prosecutor General Alexander Stoianoglo and Our Party leader Renato Usatii. If none of the candidates can get more than 50% of the votes in the first round, then the second round of elections will take place on November 3.
