"Nikol Pashinyan has one significant fear related to the West." Hakob Badalyan

Political scientist Hakob Badalyan wrote: "There is a point of view that if Nikol Pashinyan disappoints the West, so to speak, he will have problems within the government, because there are many groups of Western influence.

There is no doubt that there are such inside the government. But, I think the degree of their influence is greatly exaggerated. For example, in Georgia, the West had many times more resources: several thousands of various organizations, which with a multiplier effect became tens of thousands of demonstrators or even hundreds of thousands of demonstrators.

There is no such thing in Armenia, for a number of reasons. Let it not seem that the majority of the 730,000 conditional voters who voted for Nikol Pashinyan voted for him to go to the West or "break".

In fact, the "core" of the electorate of Western orientation are the votes that went to the forces in pro-Western positions. Calculate how many percentages they collected in the parliamentary election: 2, 3 or 5 percent? Definitely not more.

There is no pro-Western electorate in Armenia that can create a problem for the government. Moreover, there is no political force capable of leading that electorate and having adequate confidence in Armenia. Moreover, the forces that are considered pro-Western simply destroy the Western political agenda and the perspective of dialogue in Armenia shoulder to shoulder or hand in hand. But, this is another topic, on which I have spoken a lot and there will be occasions to speak again.

Thus, Nikol Pashinyan has essentially one significant fear related to the West, that they may try to provoke Azerbaijan towards Armenia or demand aggressive behavior from Azerbaijan towards Armenia. And they can do it, especially the British. Whether it will work out or not, whether Aliyev will resist or not, this is not one-size-fits-all, but Pashinyan knows without a doubt that he is under their heel and therefore subject to that influence. That is where his fear lies.

By the way, that's where Russia's concern is," he noted.
