A new dangerous virus has been discovered in Spain

In Spain, for the first time in the world, dozens of cases of rat hepatitis E have been found in humans. El Pais newspaper writes about this.According to the publication, the Rocahepevirus ratti virus (RHEV) was first discovered in Germany in 2010, but until then it was believed that humans could not be infected with it. However, in 2018, the first human infected with rat hepatitis E was discovered.

"The new patients are from widely separated parts of Spain such as Andalusia, Galicia, Navarre and Catalonia. This indicates that the virus is present in most parts of the country. These 40 cases were identified through the analysis of samples taken from more than 250 patients from 10 hospitals," said researcher Antonio Rivero Juarez, who specializes in the study of hepatitis at the Maimonides Biomedical Research Institute in Córdoba.
