A vaccine against colon cancer has been created using stem cells

Scientists from the National University of Taiwan have developed a vaccine based on the induced psychotent stem cells (IPSC), which has successfully prevented and slowed out the development of colon cancer. The results were published in Theranostics magazine.

Led by Professor Ju-Tang Wei, scientists have used IPSC lesate (collapse products) in collaboration with CPG immunichic. This combination has intensified the animal's immune response, significantly suppressing the growth of the tumor. Moreover, the vaccine operated not only as a therapeutic, but also as a preventive measure. Before being infected with cancer cells, the mice received by the medicine was resistant to the disease.

Through mass spectrometry and computer modeling, researchers identified two protein, HNRNPU and NCL, which are active in IPSCs, and cancer cells, but almost never meet in healthy tissues. They have become the targets of the immune system. Dendritic cells have "introduced" to T cells, thus causing a powerful anti-tumor response.

According to scientists, the main advantage of such a vaccine is its versatility. Its application does not require knowledge of exact mutations of a particular tumor. Due to the similarity of IPSC and tumor cells, the immune system can be prepared in advance, long before the development of the disease.

This approach opens new opportunities for creating universal cancer vaccines that can be used near the wide range of patients. In the past, IPSCs were mainly used in rehabilitation medicine, but now they prove themselves as a promising platform for the fight against oncology.
