Sleeping less than seven hours a day increases the risk of developing eight diseases, including hypertension, heart attack, stroke, obesity, diabetes, dementia, depression and alarm disorders. Neurologist Ghanaina Azjedo Santos Pacheco told TERRA about this.

According to the specialist, the shortage of sleep is disrupted by the regulation of stress hormones and metabolism, increases inflammation and blood pressure, as well as negatively affect the cardiovascular system. Metabolism and insulin production failure increases the risk of obesity and diabetes.

In addition, the shortage of sleep causes a chronic supervisor of the nervous system. It contributes to the development of mental disorders, as well as the deterioration of memory and attention. The specialist added that people who do not receive enough sleep are characterized by drowsiness and slow reactions. Such "braking" increases the likelihood of traffic accidents and work accidents.

To improve the quality of sleep, the doctor advises to sleep at the same time every night, keep the bedroom dark and avoid gadgets in the evening.
