Edmon Marukyan, the leader of the “Bright Armenia” party, wrote:
“Since when did the wish of 50 thousand deceived citizens become the will of the people of the Republic of Armenia?
Today, the National Assembly is discussing the issue of launching the process of accession of the Republic of Armenia to the European Union.
The draft law states:
“The Republic of Armenia, expressing the will of the people of the Republic of Armenia, setting the task of making the Republic of Armenia a safe, secure, developed, prosperous country.”
Since when did the wish of 50 thousand deceived citizens become the will of the people of the Republic of Armenia?
I repeat again: this process is not about imposing the responsibility of joining the EU on 50 thousand citizens, but about imposing the responsibility of an adventure fraught with grave consequences, because everyone in both the EU and our government knows that this process is not about absolute European integration.
If our authorities are so attentive to the demands of our citizens, then let them put this issue to a referendum as soon as possible.
A national referendum will decide whether to choose the path to a new war or reject it, choosing peace.
We demand a referendum."
