The commander of Iran's "Khatam al-Anbia" central headquarters announced the failed US mission to rescue the pilot of the F-15E aircraft shot down in Iran. Tasnim news agency quoted his words.
"Unsuccessful attempts to rescue the missing fighter pilot ... failed," the statement said.
The commander of the Iranian Armed Forces also informed about the downing of the American C-130 plane and two Black Hawk helicopters in the southern part of Isfahan.
A two-seater F-15E fighter was shot down on the territory of Iran on Friday. According to Axios, both crew members, the pilot and navigator/weapon operator, made contact after ejecting.
Sources of the portal noted that the pilot was saved a few hours after the plane crashed. During the search and rescue operation, Iran shot down one of the American Black Hawk helicopters participating in it. The crew members were injured, but the plane was able to leave.
US President Donald Trump later confirmed the news about the rescue of the co-pilot. He stated that the fighter's weapons operator was wounded, but "alive and healthy".
