The European People's Party wins the European Parliament elections

The European Parliament published a preliminary assessment of the election results on Sunday evening, according to which the European People's Party (Christian Democrats) is in first place, receiving 185 of the 720 seats in the European Parliament. The Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (Social Democrats) is in second place with 137 seats. The liberal parties of the "Modernizing Europe" faction received 79 mandates. Roberta Mezzola, handing over the authority of the President of the European Parliament, emphasized in her address to journalists that it is about assessment. The exact results will be presented later, and they may not quite match that estimate. Preliminary results of vote counting are expected late in the evening of June 10.
