Ice cream is a perfect combination of "fat and sugar", which the brain remembers very well and affects the dopamine system, noted dietician, gastroenterologist, nutritionist and therapist Alexandra Razarenova in an interview with "Sputnik" radio station.
"As for the question of what kind of ice cream can be recommended, natural sorbets are definitely recommended. This is interesting in terms of fat content. they will definitely be less caloric. Yogurt-based ice cream can also be used. But we must remember that both versions contain added sugar," warned Alexandra Razarenova.
If you choose a reasonable option, it is better to choose an ice cream with a simpler composition, continued the gastroenterologist.
"It should be a dairy-based ice cream that contains milk or cream, which are necessarily fatter as a base. Vegetable fats should be avoided in ice cream, and added sugar should be kept to a minimum. And, of course, syrups and toppings added to ice cream will increase the calorie count, so try to limit your intake," advises Razarenova.
But even if we follow these rules, ice cream will still remain a dessert, not a functional food, concluded the nutritionist.
