The sale of energy drinks to persons under the age of 18 will be prohibited


RA NA MPs Alkhas Ghazaryan, Hakob Arshakyan, Babken Tunyan, Sona Ghazaryan, Arusyak Julhakyan, Arsen Torosyan, Mariam Poghosyan, Hasmik Hakobyan authored the legislative package "On Amendments to the RA Law on Trade and Services" aimed at protecting the health of persons under 18 years of age. limiting the circulation of energy drinks containing caffeine and taurine, as well as creating legal bases.

The matter was discussed during the regular session of the Standing Committee on Economic Affairs of the National Assembly, convened on November 27, the National Assembly reports.

According to Alkhas Ghazaryan, the main speaker, coming up with the proposal was due to a lot of concern among the public regarding the mass consumption of energy drinks among teenagers.

According to the data published by the Ministry of Health, 40 percent of teenagers consume energy drinks weekly, which can have a negative effect on their health. According to the deputy, a number of countries have already taken certain steps to limit them.

Therefore, with the above-mentioned draft, it is proposed to prohibit the sale of energy drinks to persons under 18 years of age and to limit the possibility of their advertising.

The draft also proposes to prohibit the sale of alcoholic beverages to persons under 18 years of age.

The authors suggest applying administrative responsibility for violating the mentioned prohibitions.

RA Minister of Economy Gevorg Papoyan, presenting the Government's proposal, noted that there were proposals that were accepted by the authors, as a result of which the legislative package was updated.

In their speeches, the MPs emphasized the adoption of the draft law. The legislative package received a positive conclusion.
