CNN - The United States has vetoed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate, unconditional and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, saying it would not secure the release of the hostages.
"Throughout the negotiations, we have made it clear that we cannot support an unconditional cease-fire that does not lead to the release of hostages. Because, as this council has previously called for, a lasting end to the war must come with the release of hostages," Veto said on Wednesday. US Deputy Ambassador Robert Wood announced after the application.
"These two urgent goals are inextricably linked. This resolution eliminates that need, and that is why the United States could not support it," Wood added. Seven US citizens remain in Gaza. “We will not forget them,” he said.
