According to "Zhoghovurd" daily, Nikol Pashinyan will go to Germany on September 18 to receive the Hessen Peace Prize. The visit has already been officially confirmed. The parliament of the state of Hesse has published not only the day of the award ceremony, but also Pashinyan's program for the entire day in Germany.
According to "Zhoghovurd" daily, Pashinyan will be in Wiesbaden on September 18, where at 11:00 a.m. the Hessen Peace Prize awarding ceremony will take place. According to the official message of the German side, the award will be handed over to the prime minister by Astrid Wallmann, the speaker of the Hessian Parliament, and Serap Güler, the Minister of State of the German Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will give the awarding speech. According to the official program, before the award ceremony, at 10:45, Pashinyan will make a note in the guest book of the Hessian Parliament. Then his German visit will not end. Accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, he will participate in a number of other events. In particular, at 13:30, Pashinyan will meet with the representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Frankfurt, and in the second half of the day, from 16:00 to 17:00, he will visit the Fraunhofer LBF Institute in Darmstadt to get acquainted with the research conducted in the field of hydrogen. But the most remarkable thing is, of course, the award.
The Hessen Peace Prize is awarded to Pashinyan for his efforts to establish peace in the South Caucasus, the development of democratic institutions in Armenia and the policy of rapprochement with the European Union. The German side also singles out the Velvet Revolution of 2018, the peace process with Azerbaijan and the emphasis on non-violent policy as justification for Pashinyan's "peaceful" activity. The award also has a monetary component of 25 thousand euros.
It has been awarded by the Albert-Osswald-Stiftung since 1994 to persons who have contributed to the prevention of wars, violence and conflicts and the establishment of peace.
And here a remarkable parallel emerges. Pashinyan is being awarded the peace prize at a time when for his government the topic of peace has already become one of the most important propaganda topics not only in foreign policy, but also in domestic politics. The German side, in its official justification, singles out the process with Azerbaijan as part of Pashinyan's peacemaking policy. In other words, on September 18 in Wiesbaden, Pashinyan will receive another international evaluation for promoting the peace agenda. However, the question arises: what is the real price and result of that "peace policy" in Armenia, and to what extent does the international award reflect the evaluation of that policy within Armenian society? It is also noteworthy that this is not the first such loud international evaluation on the topic of peace for Pashinyan already in 2026. In February, he and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev jointly received the 2026 "Zayed" human brotherhood award in connection with the establishment of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
