Trump can prevent TikTok from being blocked in the US

Donald Trump, the winner of the US presidential elections, can prevent plans to block the social network TikTok in the country, the Washington Post writes, referring to sources close to Trump.

President-elect Donald Trump is expected to try to stop a possible ban on TikTok in the US next year after campaigning to save the popular social networking app if he wins, the article said.

The newspaper points out that despite Trump's lack of official statements on TikTok, some of his supporters expect him to intervene in the blocking process.

In April, US President Joe Biden signed a law ordering the transfer of the social network to the management of the American company, under the threat of banning work in the US. According to the new law, the transaction must be completed by January 19 of next year.

TikTok is an application for creating and viewing short videos owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. It was released in 2018.

The social network is under scrutiny from US authorities, who fear the Chinese government could demand user data from it or use the app to spread propaganda. TikTok has repeatedly denied those concerns.
