About 20,000 people took to the streets of Düsseldorf to protest against the right-wing party and right-wing rhetoric of the Alternative for Germany (AfD), DW reported.
The participants passed through the center of the city, "No step back. "No to AGH and the hatred of the right" with the slogan, the police and the organizers said.
Several political initiatives called on residents to participate in the rally to show support for an open and democratic society.
According to the police, the demonstration passed peacefully, no counter actions were held. Among the participants were activists of the "Grandmothers against the Right" movement, as well as many families with children.
The representatives of the movement "Grandmothers against the Right" came out with the banner "The Right has a place only when braiding". The action took place in good weather conditions.
The reason for the demonstration was the results of the Saxony-Anhalt Landtag elections held on September 6. AGH received almost 44 percent of votes, significantly ahead of other parties, but could not get an absolute majority.
