Iran has called for the suspension of US membership in the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for Washington's violation of the agency's charter, according to a statement from Iran's permanent mission to international organizations in Vienna.
"Can anyone seriously and in good faith claim that a state with such a dismal record of material violations of the charter's provisions is fulfilling its obligations? Shouldn't the membership of such a country be suspended as required by Article XIX.B," said the representative of Iran on Thursday, speaking at the 70th session of the IAEA General Conference on the agenda item dedicated to the election of the members of the Board of Governors. The Iranian side noted that all members of the agency must fulfill in good faith the obligations they have undertaken according to its charter.
"Taken together, these provisions clearly show that the right to join the Council cannot be limited only by technological power," explained the representative of the Republic of Iran.
