Israel suspended the parliamentary vote on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide

The Israeli parliament has temporarily suspended the vote on recognizing the "violence" committed against the Armenians of the Ottoman Empire as genocide.

According to JNS, an official of the Israeli government said that the scheduled vote was suspended. The decision was made amid growing tension in the region.

Earlier, the Israeli government unanimously approved the initiative. It was planned that the final decision should be taken by the country's parliament, the Knesset.

Israel previously did not officially recognize the mass murders of Armenians by the Ottoman Empire as genocide. However, against the background of worsening relations with Turkey recently, the government decided to push this issue forward.

Turkey criticized the Israeli government's decision, calling it "due to political motives".

Earlier, Azerbaijan also criticized the Israeli government's initiative to recognize the Armenian Genocide, calling for a review of that decision.
