Former RA Deputy Minister of Defense Artak Zakaryan writes:
According to a Pentagon source in The New York Times, the US is evacuating personnel from its bases in Bahrain (5th Fleet) and Qatar (not all, of course). It is also noted that some of the personnel of the military bases located in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Jordan and the UAE have already been evacuated. It should be noted that Iran sent an official letter yesterday to UN Secretary General Guterres, warning of a possible attack on it.
It was an attempt to give a possible future conflict an international legal basis. The logic is that, first, in the event of a possible strike, Iran, referring to its official warning letter, will interpret the retaliatory strikes as self-defense actions in accordance with international law.
In addition, it should be seen as an official signal not only to the UN, but also to all countries in the region. Naturally, the evacuation of personnel from US regional military bases is seen as a preparatory step to guard against Iran's retaliatory strikes.
And finally, when the state begins to document the threats in international structures, it already speaks not of the theoretical rhetoric of military escalation, but of their practical high risk."
