Macron responded to Trump's threats by criticizing the tariff crackdown

French President Emmanuel Macron strongly reacted to the tariff threats made by the USA, declaring that it is "madness" to think that the European Union should respond to Washington's "useless aggressiveness". He announced that in a comment given to The Guardian.

According to Macron, in order to overcome global economic imbalances, Europe must be stronger and more independent. He emphasized that Europe prefers growth, stability and mutual respect, rather than oppression and the language of force, stressing that the rule of law should be preferred to harsh politics.

The French president also noted that it is pointless to threaten the allies with additional customs duties. Earlier, US President Donald Trump published his correspondence with Macron, in which the French leader said that he did not understand Washington's policy on Greenland, reports The Guardian.
