China consistently opposes any action that violates the sovereignty and security of other countries, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Mao Ning said at a briefing on Thursday in response to a request from RIA Novosti for comment on the US detention of the Mariner oil tanker.
"China has consistently opposed the illegal unilateral sanctions that have no basis in international law and are authorized by the UN Security Council, as well as any actions that violate the fundamental goals and principles of the UN Charter and violate the sovereignty and security of other countries," Mao Ning said.
