US President Donald Trump announced that he had a telephone conversation with Colombian President Gustavo Petro and intends to meet with him soon at the White House.
"It was a great honor to speak with the President of Colombia, Gustavo Petro, who called to explain the situation regarding drugs and other disagreements we had.
I appreciated his call and tone and look forward to meeting him in the near future," he wrote on Truth Social. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs are leading the preparations.
The meeting will take place at the White House in Washington. Trump announced on January 3, in connection with the US military operation in Venezuela, that his warnings about Petro remain in force.
