The US will allocate nine times less to UN humanitarian programs than in previous years

The United States will allocate 2 billion dollars to humanitarian aid programs within the framework of the United Nations, which is almost nine times less than Washington's maximum investment in previous years, the Associated Press (AP) reports.
According to the United Nations, the contribution of the United States has reached 17 billion dollars in recent years. However, the US administration believes that even an investment of 2 billion dollars will allow Washington to maintain the status of the most active participant in the financing of UN humanitarian aid programs.

According to AP sources among US officials, the US wants to create a "more consolidated" aid distribution system within the UN.

"This humanitarian reform at the United Nations should facilitate greater aid delivery at lower tax costs, providing more focused and results-oriented assistance in line with U.S. foreign policy," the agency quoted U.S. Permanent Representative to the U.N. Mike Waltz as saying.

The AP notes that the decision to cut funding creates a crisis for many UN agencies involved in, among other things, refugee assistance and food aid. The US State Department has stated that these agencies will have to "adapt, shrink or die".
