Niger's Council of Ministers approved the draft decree on general mobilization. Actu Niger news portal reports this.
"The decree is dictated by the need to preserve the integrity of the national territory, sovereignty, as well as to protect the vital interests of the population, institutions and the state from any internal or external threats. It defines the procedure for organizing, preparing and holding a general military rally," the news agency quotes excerpts from the resolution.
The draft decree states that every citizen is obliged to observe the provisions and measures related to general conscription, including to respond promptly to conscription orders. It also provides for the possibility of confiscation of material resources and vehicles for the needs of the army.
To enter into force, the decree must be signed by the head of state and published in the official gazette of the Republic of Niger.
The current number of Niger's armed forces is 40,000 people. The country's leadership planned to increase the number of personnel of the armed forces to 100 thousand by 2026.
