The Minister of Energy of Turkey announced that Russia has allocated an additional 9 billion dollars to complete the construction of the Akkuyu nuclear power plant of Rosatom. He noted that Ankara expects to put the nuclear power plant into operation in 2026.
Let's remind that "Rosatom" is building Turkey's first nuclear power plant in the city of Akkuyu, Mersin province, according to the 2010 agreement. The total cost of the project is 20 billion dollars, and it was previously planned that the station would be put into operation this year, but the deadline was extended.
Bayraktar noted that the allocated funds will likely be used between 2026 and 2027. Foreign investments of at least 4-5 billion dollars are planned for 2026, he said during a briefing held in Istanbul.
The minister also announced that Turkey is negotiating with South Korea, China, Russia and the United States to implement nuclear projects in Sinop province and Thrace region. He emphasized that Ankara is looking for profitable offers.
Bayraktar stated that Turkey intends to develop its own nuclear energy sector and provided specific data on its goals.
