Kazakhstan has identified the possible cause of the AZAL plane crash

The AZAL plane is believed to have been damaged by fragments of an unidentified warhead, according to an interim report released by the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan on the investigation into the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines Embraer-190 near Aktau.

"Damage to the aircraft is believed to have been caused by the impact elements of the warhead, but their origin cannot be determined," the document states.

The Embraer 190 of Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) flying from Baku to Grozny crashed on the morning of December 25, 2024, near the city of Aktau in the west of Kazakhstan. According to the airline, there were 62 passengers and five crew members on the plane. According to the Ministry of Emergency Situations of Kazakhstan, 29 people survived. According to the Russian Embassy, nine of them were Russians.
