"While the option of using military force remains, attention is paid to applying economic pressure through the use of sanctions to achieve the desired result by the White House," the article quotes an American official as saying about the Washington administration's policy toward Venezuela.
According to the official, Washington hopes to create a threat of "economic disaster" in Venezuela "by the end of January" and force Caracas to "agree to make significant concessions to the United States."
