US Secretary of State Marco Rubio admitted that Russia may seek to control all of Ukraine. This was reported by Vanity Fair journalist Chris Whipple, who told about their conversation. According to the journalist, the conversation with Rubio took place back in October.
At the time, Whipple asked if the secretary of state agreed with US President Donald Trump's assessment that Russian leader Vladimir Putin was targeting all of Ukraine. In response, the Secretary of State noted that such options were discussed in the negotiations, which would include the cessation of the conflict along the current front line.
Rubio elaborated that such proposals would assume that Russia would retain significant territories, including Crimea, which has been under its control since 2014. However, he said, Moscow rejected those options, which raises doubts about the limited scope of Russia's goals.
