The US has imposed sanctions on Colombia's president for his ties to drug trafficking

The US administration has decided to impose sanctions on Colombian President Gustavo Petro for his ties to drug cartels and his failure to fight organized crime, US Treasury Secretary Scott Besant said.

“Since President Gustavo Petro came to power, cocaine production in Colombia has skyrocketed, flooding the United States and poisoning Americans.

President Petro allowed drug cartels to flourish and refused to stop them,” he wrote in X.

"Today, President Trump is taking decisive action to protect our country and making it clear that we will not tolerate the illegal entry of drugs into our country," Besant added.
