Sweden will deploy air defense systems as part of NATO forces in Latvia in 2026

Sweden will send two self-propelled anti-aircraft guns to Latvia in 2026, designed, among other things, to counter drones as part of NATO's rotational forces, Swedish Radio reported.

A battalion of about 500 Swedish soldiers will also be stationed in the Baltic republic. The contingent will form part of the multinational NATO brigade in Latvia, which will be deployed in the country as part of the alliance's forward ground forces.

"Given the events of recent months regarding the widely known drone threat, the situation becomes even more interesting. However, this potential is in demand in the past as well," commented Tobias Christerson, commander of the Swedish battalion, regarding the supply of weapons.

Advanced ground forces of NATO are present in all countries of the alliance bordering Russia.
