He left his life by not possible in 1992. Gagik (Gaga Avanyan, the founder of the Artsakh Armor (Gaga), who was the founder of the S-72 tank of Shushi, the staff of the Shushi, Colonel Gagik (Gaga) Avsharyan.
Gagik and Mkhitar Avsharyan brothers took part in the liberation of Shushi and the first to enter the city with their armored vehicles.
On the night of May 8, 1992, Avsharyan, a digged operator Shahen Sargsyan and mechanic-driver Ashot Avanesyan, took part in a decisive tank battle for Shushi. Their S-72 tank destroyed two severe hostile artillery units, but Avsharyan was seriously injured and evacuated from the battlefield. The tank was later blown up, as a result of which Avsharyan remained the only survivor of the staff.
Despite the severe injuries, Avsharyan continued his service, as he restored S-72 tanks with selfless efforts, which later became a monument.
This monument, which has known as "Shushi Tank", became one of the most symbolic manifestations of Artsakh's victory and national endurance.
After 2023 Artsakh's criticism, Azerbaijan dismantled the tank-monument to Armenians on the way to Shushi.
