Microsoft can sue Windows 10 support

Lawrence Clay, a resident of Southern California, has filed a lawsuit against Microsoft's Supreme Court on the forthcoming completion of Windows 10, which is scheduled for October, according to Tom's Hardware (th).

The plaintiff claims that Microsoft's decision is aimed to force customers to buy new devices that are optimized to work with the company's artificial intelligence software, in particular, Copilot, which is part of Windows 11.

Clayne, who has two Windows 10 laptops, does not plan to stop using them. Despite the possibility of free updating on Windows 11, millions of existing devices do not meet the requirements of the system due to the lack of a mandatory TPM 2.0. Although there are methods to bypass this requirement, their use deprives the device from official support and complicates technical assistance from the company.

Windows 10 users are offered to extend security updates for a year for $ 30 a year if they have a Microsoft account. At the same time, the mandatory creation of Microsoft account to install Windows 11 is one of the reasons that some Windows 10 users delay the transition to a new version.

In his statement, Klein asked the court to oblige Microsoft to continue to support Windows 10 without collection of additional fees from 10% of the total number of Windows-based devices.

Satisfaction of Requirements may cause additional financial costs for Microsoft and slow down Windows 11. However, given that only for about two months left for the official support of Windows 10, experts believe that the timely ending of the trial is unlikely. In addition, Microsoft, as expected, will appeal to any unfavorable decision of the court.
