"I am the master of my time." Hrant Matevosyan's words echoed again from his balcony

Renowned novelist Hrant Matevosyan “sent a message” from the balcony of his own home through an artificial intelligence-generated rendering, reciting his legendary words, “I am the master of my time.”

During an event organized to mark the writer’s 90th birthday, his image and voice were reproduced, as if the brilliant novelist entered into a literary dialogue with the audience. The writer was here again, looking through the eyes of his time and speaking in his own lines, as he had done in his time.

“In the process, the sense of illusion began to disappear, it seemed that Matevosyan was here, next to us, with us. It was breathtakingly beautiful when the genius, who has always borne the weight of his time, came to life again in front of us,” notes participant Svetlana Hakobyan, as reported by “Armenpress”.

At this crossroads of literature, technology and art, the organizers tried not only to remind us of Matevosyan’s legacy, but also to show that his words continue to survive and be heard to this day. Representatives of different generations, literary critics, cultural figures, and random passers-by, together witnessed the writer’s unique “return”.

“I personally knew the great genius, and being here was very moving for me. He was very often at our house, as a result of his communication with my father. Both of them were from Lori. The latter was able to masterfully reflect both the warmth of Lori and the description of the natural world, with his words, attitude, and presence. He was very good at feeling the time and always kept his hand on the pulse. The evidence of this is the literature he created,” says film critic Aneta Yerznkyan.

The evening continued with readings of Matevosyan’s best works by actors of the National Theater and students of Yerevan School No. 112,which further emphasized the immortality of his literary legacy.

The depiction, the subsequent reading, and the large crowd were evidence that Matevosyan truly “is the master of his time.” The initiative was another of the events organized by the “Hrant Matevosyan” Foundation, which turned into much more, turning memory into a beautiful presence.
