About 31,000 people have received mandatory evacuation notices in Los Angeles County due to the Hughes wildfire, reports CBS News, citing authorities.
"Los Angeles County Sheriff Robert Luna said 31,000 residents in the county have been notified of a mandatory evacuation, and another 23,000 have been warned that it may be necessary," the report said.
The California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection reports the fire has grown to 9,200 acres (37 square kilometers).
The department said earlier that the Hughes fire had burned more than 20 square kilometers across the county.
The forest fires that started in Los Angeles County on January 7 are considered the biggest in the state's history.
