Those who attend COP29 in Baku have moral duty to call for the return of the Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh, Nathalie Loiseau

Nathalie Loiseau, Member of Committee on Foreign Affairs and Subcommittee on Security and Defence of European Parliament referred to the first anniversary of September 19, 2023 attack by Azerbaijan on the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh. “A year ago today, Azerbaijan launched a military offensive on Nagorno-Karabakh and forced hundreds and thousands to flee leaving behind the traces of the first ethnic cleansing of the 21st century. A year later not one person has been able to return home. They are still in Azerbaijan imprisoned as are the prisoners of previous conflicts. They've been unable to return home. The The cultural heritage of Nagorno-Karabakh is severely threatened or already destroyed. And no peace treaty has been signed with Armenia.   In a few weeks, Baku will host the COP29. And those who attend have the moral duty to call for the return of the Armenians to Nagorno-Karabakh and the release of prisoners. Our fight for the planet cannot be at the expense of those who live there”, Loiseau said in her speech at an EP plenary session.
