US President Donald Trump signed an executive order to officially rename the Gulf of Mexico the American Gulf, and the highest mountain in North America, Denali, to Mount McKinley. The text of the document was published on the White House website.
According to the decree, the head of the US Department of the Interior, which manages the country's natural resources, must resolve all issues related to the name change within 30 days.
Next, the department must update the data in the Official Geographic Names Information System (GNIS), after which officials must ensure that all official government documents refer to these geographic features.
As an argument in favor of renaming the Gulf of Mexico, the document mentions the fact that "the largest gulf in the world" "remains at the center of the American economy."
