The Guardian reports: "An oligarchy is emerging in America today, and its vast wealth, power, and influence threaten our democracy, our basic rights and freedoms, and every person's opportunity to succeed.
The consequences are being felt in every corner of America," he said in a televised farewell address to his fellow citizens on Wednesday evening. The acting president added that he was seriously concerned about the "dangerous concentration of power in the hands of a very small number of ultra-rich" and their possible "abuse of power". "There is another danger in democracy: the concentration of power and wealth. It erodes citizens' sense of unity and common purpose.It breeds mistrust and division.
"Participation in our democracy is becoming exhausting, even frustrating. People feel like they don't have a fair shot at success," Biden said.
