Three people were arrested on suspicion of arson in Los Angeles

Los Angeles County police have arrested three people on suspicion of arson, as fires have raged across the US state of California for a second week, County Sheriff Jim McDonnell said.

“On Sunday night in North Hollywood, our officers responded to a possible arson suspect who used a lighter to start a fire. Two more arrests were made on Monday," McDonnell said at the press conference.

The forest fires that started in Los Angeles County on January 7 are considered the biggest in the history of the state. According to the authorities, the total area of fires exceeded 16 thousand hectares.

At least 24 people were killed and more than 12,300 buildings, including the homes of celebrities, were destroyed. Meteorologists note that the dry and windy weather caused the fire to spread quickly.
