The Republicans of the House of Representatives of the US Congress have prepared a bill that, if passed, will give the US president the right to negotiate with Denmark on the purchase of Greenland, the Axios news platform reports.
The bill would authorize the US leader to "seek to enter into negotiations with the Kingdom of Denmark to secure the acquisition of Greenland by the United States," according to a draft of the document submitted for discussion, prepared by Republican Congressman Andy Ogles and ten co-authors.
The news platform draws attention to the fact that this is another bill proposed by the Republicans, "called to implement Donald Trump's vision of a new era of American expansionism."
Last week, Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene introduced a bill to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of Mexico, and Congressman Dusty Johnson introduced a bill to give the president authority to negotiate the purchase of the Panama Canal.
The leaders of Denmark and Greenland are against the idea. However, the Danish government sent a personal message to Trump's team, expressing readiness to discuss the issue of increasing the US military presence in Greenland. Earlier, Trump expressed a desire to include Greenland in the United States, as it, in his opinion, would be in Washington's national interests.
Moreover, he did not rule out that he may use military force to achieve this goal.
