During his speech, Pezeshkian demanded to turn off the lights to save electricity

Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, during a meeting with the residents of Bojnord, North Khorasan province, demanded to turn off the lights in order to save electricity.

"We consume as much gas and electricity as the whole of Europe. Why are our lights on when the sun is shining?" Pezeshkian said from the podium. At the same moment, as can be seen from the footage broadcast on the IRIB TV channel, the lights in the room were turned off.

According to the president, many people abuse gas and electricity, wasting them. "This is a very bad habit, we must get rid of it," he added.

On Dec. 12, Pezeshkian recorded a video message urging Iranians to lower the temperature of refrigerants in their homes by at least two degrees so they can replenish gas reserves and continue uninterrupted power supplies across the country.
