FSB’s deputy director informs UN about Russia’s counter-terrorism initiative

Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and Chief of Staff of the National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAC) Colonel General Igor Sirotkin delivered a speech in the UN Security Council on Russia’s cooperation against terrorism, the FSB Center for Public Relations told TASS.

On February 28, he took part in a joint session of the Counter-Terrorism Committee of the UN Security Council (UNSC) and the UNSC Committee.

"Regarding the development of cooperation of the participants of the 17th meeting on international information security [Igor Sirotkin] informed about the new Russian counter-terrorism initiative directed at providing lawful access of security services and law enforcement bodies to deciphered information exchange of terrorists," the FSB said.

Sirotkin also told about other results of the work of the 17th session of heads of intelligence services and security and law enforcement bodies which took place in Moscow in November 2018.

NAC’s chief of staff dwelled on the counter-terrorism agenda of the 17th meeting, paying special attention to partner cooperation of intelligence services in countering foreign terrorist fighters, the radicalization of population and its involvement in extremist and terrorist activity. "He drew attention to the development of the international data base on countering terrorism - an information resource created in order to organize a common information anti-terrorism space for intelligence services," the FSB added.

The FSB’s deputy director also noted that the work of the 17th session demonstrated comprehensive support by its participants of the UNSC’s activity in the fight against terrorism.
